7th Grade Summer Reading Requirements

The assignments will be due the first week of school.

While reading the books:

  1. Using a #2 pencil, place a box around vocabulary you do not know.
  2. Annotate the books as you read. Do this by writing in the margins of the books with a #2 pencil, making note of observations you make, predictions you make, or plot twists you see developing. This is much like a conversation you are having with the book.

After reading the books:
On notebook paper, writing at least two paragraphs per number, complete the following questions for each of your summer reading books.
  1. Identify various times when a character must make an important choice. How does the character make each choice? Is each individual choice right or wrong? Explain using evidence from the book.
  2. What major events play a role in changing or developing the main character?
  3. Does the main character display positive or negative values? Can anyone in the novel be seen as a Christ-figure? Explain by using examples from the book.
  4. Identify the major themes of the book. Find three quotations from the book that address each theme. Write the quotes, their corresponding page numbers, and which theme they represent. Don't forget to use quotation marks.
